What is the difference between the Court of Appeals and the Circuit Court?

I know that, in order to reach the Supreme Court, a case must go through the District Court and then either the Court of Appeals or Circuit Court. Am I correct? I am talking about the federal court system by the way.

In the US Federal Court system, the Circuit Courts include both District Courts and Courts of Appeals. The Circuit Courts of Appeals hear appeals from the District Courts in that federal circuit.
